Friday Finds – August 21, 2009
Friday Finds is hosted by Should Be Reading and asks one question: “What great books did you hear about/discover this past week?”

“Whiskey Gulf” by Clyde Ford came my way as a review copy from the publishing company, and looks like a promising mystery thriller.
“After a sailboat drifts into a “livefire” naval exercise area known as Whiskey Gulf, it’s never heard from again. Maritime private investigator Charlie Noble is asked to discover what happened to the couple aboard. But he’s stonewalled by the American and Canadian military. Then he learns that a Middle Eastern agent has been dispatched to find the couple as well—an agent with an old score to settle from his days as a Coast Guard intelligence officer.”

“Heck: Where the Bad Kids Go” by Dale E. Basye, is actually a Friday Find posted by Alexia at Alexia’s Books and Such, but it sounded like such great fun, I wanted to mention it as well.
“When Milton and Marlo Fauster die in a marshmallow-bear explosion, they get sent straight to Heck, an otherworldly reform school. Milton can understand why his kleptomaniac sister is here, but Milton is—or was—a model citizen. Has a mistake been made? Not according to Bea “Elsa” Bubb, the Principal of Darkness. She doesn’t make mistakes. She personally sees to it that Heck—whether it be home ec class with Lizzie Borden, ethics with Richard Nixon, or gym with Blackbeard the pirate—is especially, well, heckish for the Fausters. Will Milton and Marlo find a way to escape? Or are they stuck here for all eternity, or until they turn eighteen, whichever comes first?”

“The Wildfire Season” by Andrew Pyper. Came across this one at A Season To Read when Wanda used it for her Teaser Tuesdays post.
“Ross River is a town clinging to the outside world at the end of the Yukon’s loneliest road. It is also the hiding place of Miles McEwan, thet own’s hard-drinking, fist-fighting fire chief. But the slow burn of Miles’ self-imposed exile is about to explode. As a hunting party tracking one of the last giant grizzlies confronts a different, more chilling enemy and an inferno ignited by human hands races toward the town, Miles embarks on a desperate rescue mission – not only for the life of his daughter but for his own salvation.”

Hi Gina & Jenny, it seems like an original way to go, at least. No word if they were eating chocolate & graham crackers near a campfire, nor whether they were disintegrated or if the rescue team found smore of them.

Thanks for the mention Michael! Agree that Heck looks like a lot of fun. Loved your comment about wondering if the rescue team found smore of them. *L*
