Interesting challenge. I’m not one for reading screenplays but funny enough I just purchased Marguerite Duras’ Hiroshima, Mon Amour (1960). It’s about a French woman who falls in love with a Japanese man when she visits Hiroshima in 1957. It was produced as a film in 1959 and won acclaim around the world. It’s the complete script along with Duras’ original synopsis and notes. It’ got dozens of stills from the film too. I’ve never been able to find the film where I am but I look forward to reading this screenplay.

I’m not really into reading Silence of the Lambs, but I’ll be interested in seeing what you do in future months. Like I said in my Teaser comment, I’ve never read a screenplay. Could be fun!

Hi Michael, this is a cool idea. I was discussing it with my daughter and she thought it would be cool to read the screenplay to the Emma Thompson version of Sense and Sensibility, I guess you could compare the adaptation to the original book. You could do that with Silence of the lambs, too of course , creepy movie and book. Bell says she would also like to read the screenplay to another Emma Thompson, Kenneth Branagh film called Dead Again. She is a big fan of both Thompson and Branagh.
Anyway Around the World is currently on its way to India, and I just dropped by to pass on an award so if your into the award thing stop by.
I will be following the screenplay challenge with interest. Actually I just thought of another recent film that would be interesting to read the screenplay for; Stardust .

If you have any particular movie in mind for your class rather than the ones that are voted for over the next few months, let me know and I’ll see if I have the screenplay for it. Sharing that screenplay with your class would definitely count for participating in the challenge.

Hi Linday, there’s no blog requirement, just that you share your thoughts on the screenplay and movie – that could be done through the comments section here, or via email as well, where you could attach an audio file of your opinion.

What a wonderful idea! I have never read a screen play, but would be thrilled to start.

I am an English teacher and always try to train my students to read the book before watching the movie. I think this challenge would really help me in the classroom to not only relate to my students, but to teach them something new that would enjoy.

Let me give some thought before signing up — but I am pretty sure I have already convinced myself
