Friday Finds – August 28, 2009
Friday Finds is hosted by Should Be Reading and asks one question: “What great books did you hear about/discover this past week?”

“Juliet, Naked” by Nick Hornby. Saw this mentioned at Mary’s Bookfan blog, and I had to include it because both my wife and I enjoy reading Nick Hornby. This one will be coming out on September 29, 2009.
“What happens when a washed-up musician looks for anther chance? And a childless woman looks for a change? “Juliet, Naked” is a powerfully engrossing, humorous novel about music, love, loneliness, and the struggle to live up to one’s promise.”

“Crow Boy” by Taro Yashima found at Dolce Bellezza The little blurb below does not give enough of an impression – go read Dolce Belleza’s post to see why I chose this as a Friday Find.
“A shy mountain boy in Japan leaves his home at dawn and returns at sunset to go to the village school. Pictures and text of moving and harmonious simplicity.”

Michael, I’m glad that you were as moved by this story as I was. Thanks for including it in your Friday Finds’ list! It’s a meme I haven’t participated in yet, but I’d like to someday. Blessings on your weekend, B.

Thanks, Belleza. And I also finally received “Brave Story” from the library, so I will be reading it this week.

Nice finds! Nick Hornby is usually pretty good, so may have to give “Juliet, Naked” a shot.

I’ve had mixed luck with Nick Hornby, but I like the title of Juliet, Naked, and I seem to recall a galley of it going by at work.

Alexia, Charley, Vivienne & Mishel,
I’ve liked Hornby’s books, and they’ve been done fairly well in their big screen adaptations as well. “About A Boy” gets watched here every few months.
