Teaser Tuesdays – Trainspotting
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.
“Trainspotting” was adapted into a screenplay by John Hodge from the novel of the same name by Irvine Welsh. The film was released in theaters in 1996, and follows Mark Renton and his friends in Edinburgh, all unrepentant drug abusers, as they work hard to avoid any and all responsibilities.
The teaser below comes from the scene in the flat of one of Renton’s drug-using acquaintances where the group of them often stay. One of them, Allison, wails and screams, and it takes a while for the others to work themselves out of their drug-addled stupors. Renton and Sick Boy see for themselves – in a bundle of dirty blankets, Allison’s baby is lifeless. And what follows below is the immediate course of action Renton decides to follow – another hit of heroin.
SICK BOY
Say something, Mark, say something -
RENTON
I’m cookin’ up.

Probably not for me, but it’s an interesting teaser. Never saw the film, and didn’t know it was adapted from a novel.

Haven’t seen the movie and though I’m familiar with the title, I had no idea what the movie was about. With your build-up included, one realizes how cold that teaser feels.

Crazy depressing was my first thought. I haven’t seen the film, but I hear wonderful things about it. May have to give it a try. Great teaser!

I think it would be so interesting to read the screenplay as it has been a while since I have seen the movie. Your teaser reminded me this is one of those movies I want to watch again.
